The predecessor of Guangdong Medical University Affiliated Dongguan No.1 Hospital

The predecessor of Guangdong Medical University Affiliated Dongguan No.1 Hospital was Dongguan Tangxia Hospital, established in 1958. After more than 60 years of arduous entrepreneurship, the hospital has consistently upheld its culture of integrity, excellence, pragmatism, and innovation, advancing steadily through dedication and pioneering spirit. In 2019, it was upgraded to Dongguan Southeastern Central Hospital and a municipal-level third-class public hospital. In December 2020, the Dongguan Municipal Government officially transferred management authority to Guangdong Medical University, renaming the hospital Guangdong Medical University Affiliated Dongguan No.1 Hospital. It became a directly affiliated hospital of Guangdong Medical University, as well as the Second Clinical Medical College, the General Practice Medical College, and the Research Institute of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine. The hospital is now a comprehensive tertiary teaching hospital integrating medical care, education, and research. Located at the heart of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the new hospital campus was completed and put into operation in 2015, situated at No. 42 Jiaoping Road, Tangxia Town, Dongguan City. Covering an area of 150 mu (approximately 10 hectares) with a total construction area of 155,000 square meters, the facility is set to accommodate 1,200 beds. The hospital is adjacent to Shenzhen's Guangming, Longgang, and Longhua districts, close to major transportation hubs including the Daping interchange of the Dongguan-Shenzhen Expressway, Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport, Shenzhen North Station, and Dongguan South Station. The planned Dongguan Metro Line 1 branch and the northern extension of Shenzhen Metro Line 22 will both include stations at the hospital, offering convenient access. Surrounded by a scenic, garden-style environment, the hospital is a modern, picturesque public institution and a designated medical insurance provider. Currently, the hospital offers over 40 clinical departments. It is equipped with advanced facilities such as a 3.0T MRI, high-end spiral CT, linear accelerator, DSA, DR, four-dimensional color ultrasound, fully automatic biochemical analyzer, multiple endoscopic diagnostic and therapeutic systems, and hyperbaric oxygen chambers. Traditional strengths include the Department of Classical Chinese Medicine, Neurology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Stomatology, and Intensive Care Medicine. Meanwhile, cardiovascular interventional therapy, diagnosis and treatment of thyroid and breast diseases, and aesthetic medicine have emerged as the hospital’s new highlights. The hospital is fully implementing the planning and deployment by the Dongguan Municipal Party Committee, Municipal Government, and Guangdong Medical University, comprehensively strengthening modern hospital management system construction, advancing discipline development and high-level talent recruitment and cultivation initiatives. Guided by the concept of modern integrated medicine, the hospital is accelerating its transformation into a high-level affiliated hospital directly under a medical university. Currently, it is intensively building specialized medical centers including the Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Oncology Center, Cardio-Cerebrovascular Center, Respiratory Medicine Center, Gastroenterology Center, Neurology Center, Nephrology and Urology Center, Orthopedics Center, Critical Care Medicine Center, Rehabilitation Medicine Center, Ophthalmology Center, Health Management Center, and the National Medicine Center. The hospital is vigorously promoting specialty, sub-specialty, and disease-specific construction, accelerating progress on the "Six Major Rescue Centers" such as the Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center, and striving to establish an emergency and critical care system in the southeast region of Dongguan City. Guangdong Medical University is fully supporting the hospital’s advancement toward becoming a high-level university-affiliated hospital, aiming to create a top-tier base for high-level talent training, high-quality scientific research output, and concentration of advanced academic disciplines.
