Guangzhou No. 12 People's Hospital is a tertiary comprehensive hospital integrating medical care, teaching, research, prevention, health care, rehabilitation, occupational disease control, chemical poisoning emergency response, toxic and hazardous substance monitoring, testing, and identification. It concurrently bears the names of Guangzhou Occupational Disease Prevention Hospital, Guangzhou Hospital of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Guangzhou Chemical Poisoning Emergency Response Center, and Guangzhou Medical University Affiliated No. 12 Hospital. The hospital is a national standardized cardiac rehabilitation center construction unit and a member of the China Stroke Center Alliance. It serves as the host unit for the Guangzhou Medical Association’s Section of Toxicity Treatment, the Guangzhou Occupational Health Quality Control Center, the Guangzhou Radiological Health Quality Control Center, the Medical Technical Support Center for Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety, a stroke emergency response map hospital, a construction unit of the Acupuncture Hospital 1+N Consortium, and a founding member of the China Water Birth Alliance. It is also the first provincial lung cancer integrated diagnosis and treatment center in the Guangzhou region and a designated project unit for the breast tumor prevention and control demonstration system. The hospital operates three campuses: the Tianhe Campus, Guangyuan Branch, and Huangpu New Campus, with a total building area of 158,559 square meters and 1,039 inpatient beds. Additionally, the second phase of the Huangpu New Campus, covering 179,216 square meters, is currently under construction. The hospital currently has 50 clinical specialty departments, including internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, otolaryngology-head and neck surgery, occupational diseases and poisoning clinical departments, traditional Chinese medicine, rehabilitation medicine, ophthalmology, stomatology, dermatology, and 17 occupational health specialty departments. Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is a high-level clinical key discipline cultivation specialty in Guangzhou, featuring subspecialties in otology, rhinology, pharynx and head-neck surgery, audiology, sleep medicine, and allergic rhinology. It has established an integrated diagnostic and treatment center for ear, nose, throat, and head-neck disorders, specializing in vertigo diagnosis, balance function testing, and vestibular functional hearing rehabilitation. The department has received multiple provincial and municipal scientific and technological achievement awards and has been repeatedly recognized as one of Guangdong Province’s strongest medical departments. The Occupational Disease Department is a high-level clinical key discipline in Guangzhou, distinguished by its expertise in treating severe poisoning cases and large-volume pulmonary lavage. Its clinical specialties include "Acute Amanita Poisoning Clinical Treatment Technology Based on Emergency Rescue Management" and "Combined Pulmonary Lavage Technique for Improving Pulmonary Function and Six-Minute Walking Distance in Pneumoconiosis," both recognized as characteristic clinical technologies in Guangzhou. The Poisoning Treatment Center is responsible for emergency response to chemical poisoning and nuclear or radiological incidents in Guangzhou and surrounding areas, achieving leading success rates in treating severe poisonings within the province. It has maintained a zero mortality record in cases of severe organophosphorus and rodenticide poisoning; using non-biological artificial liver (plasma exchange), it has achieved a rescue success rate exceeding 80% in severe mushroom poisoning; it has successfully treated patients with high-lethality herbicides, copper sulfate, botulinum toxin, and other special poisonings, and led the development of multiple provincial poisoning diagnosis and treatment guidelines in Guangdong Province. The Occupational Health Surveillance Center is a key discipline of Guangdong Province's "12th Five-Year Plan" and a municipal key discipline in Guangzhou, with occupational health surveillance capabilities and standards ranking among the top nationally. The center features a 1,500-square-meter multi-functional examination facility equipped with advanced medical devices, capable of conducting over 800 examinations per day. It handles more than 300,000 physical examinations annually, with a steadily increasing trend. The Oncology Center provides personalized, precise, and effective treatments based on molecular pathology diagnostics, offering various options including surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and interventional procedures. Additionally, through its affiliation with the Guangdong Provincial Lung Cancer Integrated Diagnosis and Treatment Center, the oncology center invites world-renowned experts to establish a cutting-edge, standardized treatment pathway for early, intermediate, and late-stage lung cancer patients. Water birth is a distinctive technique offered by our hospital’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. We pioneered water births in South China in 2006 and established Guangdong Province’s first dedicated water birth delivery room. The obstetrics department has repeatedly ranked among the strongest specialties in Guangdong hospitals and is recognized as a national base for pelvic floor grading and healthcare, providing highly effective treatment for postpartum recovery and urinary incontinence. In addition, the hospital hosts several research and innovation platforms, including the Guangzhou Center for Collaborative Innovation in Occupational Health Science, the Guangzhou Key Laboratory of Occupational Environment and Health (a project under the Guangzhou Key Laboratory initiative), the Key Laboratory of Occupational Environment and Health (Guangzhou Medical Key Discipline), the Institute of Occupational and Environmental Health at Guangzhou Medical University, the Institute of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Guangzhou Medical University, a Doctoral Workstation, and a Central Laboratory. Since 2002, the hospital has been developing the Guangzhou Biobank, which now includes a baseline cohort of over 40,000 individuals with three rounds of follow-up data, as well as a liquid nitrogen storage facility for immortalized white blood cells and plasma, supported by an information technology management system.
