Guangzhou First People's Hospital was established in 1899 (the 25th year of Guangxu), making it one of the first Grade A tertiary hospitals in Guangdong Province. In 2013, it was approved by the Guangzhou Institutional Organization Commission to be concurrently named "Guangzhou Center for Digestive Diseases." It was designated as the Affiliated City One People's Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University in 1997 and became the Second Affiliated Hospital of South China University of Technology in 2017. The Bio-Island research platform operates under the principles of unified planning, open sharing, centralized management, and paid usage. The platform collaborates synergistically with other R&D facilities on Guangzhou International Bio-Island, promoting open cooperation and shared development, providing strong support and guarantees for the hospital’s research projects. Over the past five years, it has secured more than 797 projects at various levels, with funding exceeding 170 million yuan. Among these, 159 projects were awarded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and over 500 SCI-indexed papers have been published, including multiple high-impact factor articles in top international journals such as Nature, Cell, and Blood.
