Guangzhou First People's Hospital was established in 1899 (the 25th year of Guangxu), making it one of the first Grade A tertiary hospitals in Guangdong Province. In 2013, it was approved by the Guangzhou Institutional Organization Commission to be concurrently named "Guangzhou Center for Digestive Diseases." It was designated as the Affiliated City One People's Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University in 1997 and became the Second Affiliated Hospital of South China University of Technology in 2017.
