Guangzhou Nansha District Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital is the only Grade III-A TCM hospital in Nansha District, Guangzhou, integrating medical care, teaching, research, prevention, health care, and rehabilitation. Established in 1958, it was originally known as Daguang Health Center of Panyu County. It was renamed to its current name in 2004 following administrative adjustments in Nansha District, and officially upgraded to a Grade III-A TCM hospital in 2021. The hospital covers a total area of approximately 86,000 square meters with a construction area of 120,000 square meters, has a planned bed capacity of 800, with over 600 beds currently open, and employs more than 800 staff members, including over 120 senior professionals and more than 30% holding postgraduate degrees. In terms of TCM-specific services, the hospital offers specialized areas such as the National TCM Hall, TCM Preventive Care Center, Traditional Chinese Medicine Steam Room, and Moxibustion Room, providing traditional therapies including herbal decoctions, medicinal pastes, acupuncture, tuina, cupping, and gua sha. It also integrates modern medical technologies to deliver combined TCM-Western medicine treatments, establishing notable strengths in areas such as musculoskeletal disorders, chronic disease management, and sub-health conditioning. As the main force in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) health services in Nansha District, the hospital has long undertaken basic medical care, public health services, and promotion of TCM-appropriate techniques for local residents. The hospital serves over 800,000 outpatient cases annually and more than 12,000 inpatients. The hospital emphasizes scientific research and teaching, serving as an affiliated non-direct hospital of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, responsible for clinical teaching at institutions including Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Guangdong Pharmaceutical University. In the past five years, it has secured over 10 provincial and ministerial-level research projects, published more than 200 academic papers, and obtained 5 national invention patents. During the pandemic, as a designated treatment facility, the hospital fully leveraged the advantages of TCM in preventing disease before onset, developed and widely distributed preventive prescriptions for COVID-19, achieving the milestone results of zero patient deaths and zero healthcare worker infections.
