Guangzhou Medical University Affiliated Second Hospital (commonly known as Guangyi ErYuan) was officially established in December 1982 and founded the Second Clinical College of Guangzhou Medical College in August 2004. In June 2013, the hospital was formally renamed Guangzhou Medical University Affiliated Second Hospital, and the Second Clinical College of Guangzhou Medical College was renamed the Second Clinical College of Guangzhou Medical University. After decades of hard work and development, the hospital has grown into a large, comprehensive tertiary A-level hospital integrating medical care, teaching, and research, with complete medical personnel, strong academic disciplines, advanced medical technology, outstanding scientific and educational achievements, state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment equipment, and well-developed medical services. It serves as an affiliated hospital of a higher medical institution and has become a key center for clinical diagnosis and treatment, medical education, and medical research in Guangzhou City, as well as a provincial and municipal cadre health care base. The hospital comprises three campuses: the main campus, the Panyu branch, and the West Campus. The main campus is located in the central area of Haizhu District, Guangzhou, directly above Changgang Metro Station with dual subway access. The total land area of the three campuses is 111,000 square meters, with a building area of 229,500 square meters. The hospital has a total of 2,500 designated beds, 46 clinical departments, and 12 medical technical departments. It includes the Guangzhou Institute of Neuroscience, the Guangzhou Cardiovascular Disease Research Institute, and one community health service center. The hospital currently employs over 3,600 staff members, including 631 with senior professional titles. Among them are five experts receiving special government allowances from the State Council, one national-level talent selected under the "Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talent Project," one national expert with outstanding contributions to young and middle-aged professionals, three jointly appointed academicians, one Zhujiang Scholar Distinguished Professor, three leading medical talents in Guangdong Province, and one outstanding young researcher in natural sciences in Guangdong Province. More than 300 staff members serve as chairpersons or vice-chairpersons in various professional associations at provincial and municipal levels. The hospital boasts a comprehensive range of medical disciplines, strong technical capabilities, and distinctive specialties in neurological diseases, cardiovascular diseases, rheumatic diseases, allergic diseases, chronic pain management, kidney transplantation, and minimally invasive surgery, achieving advanced national standards in these fields. Pain Medicine, Allergy and Immunology are nationally recognized key clinical specialties. Additionally, 16 departments—including Cardiovascular Medicine, Neurosurgery, Critical Care Medicine, Neurology, Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, Rehabilitation Medicine, Medical Laboratory Science, Thoracic Surgery, Nephrology, Medical Imaging, Ophthalmology, Endocrinology, Respiratory Medicine, Pain Medicine, and Allergy and Immunology—are designated as Guangdong Provincial Key Clinical Specialties. Emergency Medicine, Pain Medicine, and Allergy and Immunology are recognized as high-level clinical specialties in Guangdong Province. The hospital has 25 clinical specialties accredited as national drug clinical trial institutions and three as national training bases for clinical pharmacists. Equipped with state-of-the-art modern medical technology, the hospital features the latest generation gamma-ray stereotactic radiosurgery system, femtosecond laser refractive surgery machine, 3.0T medical magnetic resonance imaging system, 256-slice whole-body high-speed spiral spectral CT, dual C-arm digital subtraction angiography X-ray system (DSA), intraoperative radiation therapy surgical system, single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET-CT), robotic surgical microscopes, and digital integrated operating rooms. The hospital oversees teaching for the Second Department of Clinical Medicine, Medical Imaging, and Anesthesiology at Guangzhou Medical University. Clinical Medicine and Medical Imaging are national first-class undergraduate program construction sites. It undertakes multi-level education including associate, bachelor’s, graduate, and resident physician training. The hospital has an outstanding faculty team, comprising 77 doctoral supervisors and 152 master’s supervisors. The Internal Medicine teaching team is a nationally recognized excellent teaching group. Internal Medicine courses are designated as national quality courses and national bilingual teaching demonstration courses, along with numerous provincial and municipal model courses. The hospital hosts 27 residency training bases for standardized resident physicians, one specialized physician training base, and two collaborative hospitals.
